DMH Offers Free H1N1 Flu Clinic Saturday, Oct. 24

October 22...Decatur Memorial Hospital will host a free community H1N1 flu clinic for Macon County residents on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon in the DMH Classrooms.

The vaccine protects against getting the H1N1 flu virus. People will receive an H1N1 flu injection or nasal spray vaccine based on Centers for Disease Control guidelines.

Priority high risk groups for Saturday’s H1N1 flu clinic are:

people age 10 to 24 (Under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)
people who care for infants 6 months of age and younger
day care workers, health care and emergency personnel
people age 25 to 64 that have a chronic medical condition like heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease or a metabolic disease like diabetes, asthma, anemia or other blood disorders.

The vaccine is available on a first come first served basis. Vaccines for children under age 10 will not be available at this flu clinic.

In addition to getting an H1N1 flu vaccine, the Centers for Disease Control recommends the following everyday actions to stay healthy:

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
LWash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Stay at home if you get sick and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
